It’s 2021, and we’re now one full year into “lockdown,” “quarantine,” “living hell,” or whatever you’ve come to call it. If you’re anything like me, your screentime has increased. By a lot.

The average person touches, JUST TOUCHES, their phone an average of 2,617 times PER DAY. Just think about that. That’s about 2 touches per minute. Now, assuming you sleep, that average goes up.

For myself, I was averaging about 8 hours a day, with the vast majority of my time spent on social media. That’s pathetic and I’m completely ashamed of myself. Looking at those statistics was jarring…

As a grocery store employee, I thought I was ok. It had already been 11 months and I still had a job, so, naturally, I figured things would be ok. And then I lost my job.

My immediate reaction was extreme panic. How would I pay bills? Live? Do anything at all? Where would I find another job? HOW would I find another job? The panic then receded into embarrassment. “Oh my God, I just lost my job. I am so happy we’re in a pandemic so I don’t have to face anybody.” There were plenty of tears. Then came…

I cannot believe what we all just witnessed yet I am not at all surprised. This “American Experiment” is a failure. A country where “all men are created equal” has always been a myth. It has never existed. Everyone knows this to be true, just some will not accept it.

Black people have never been free. Any single time a black person has sniffed free air or attempted to sniff free air, in America, they have been punished, usually severely. Non-white males are free as long as they stay in their place. A woman attempts to rise out of her…

This is the story of two people who work as “essential workers” in the United States. Sadly, these two people are not important, like doctors or nurses or pharmacists, but instead a grocery store employee and a dock supervisor for a beer distributor. For this article, companies will be left out, as I suspect people can plug in their own company and tell similar stories. That and I am not about to get fired. But now, back to the story.

So the grocery store employee works for a company that does daily health screenings, requires masks at all times unless…

More than 2 years ago, I thought I was awesome because I deleted Facebook from my phone. That lasted about twenty minutes. Then I returned and made my way through life as the Facebook zombie so many of us have become. What’s the harm, right? It’s just stupid stuff that doesn’t do anything bad. Well maybe not.

Covid started unleashing its ugly head on the world and something happened. For like twenty minutes, we all cared about essential workers and grocery store employees and doctors and nurses. We were locked in our houses with our children, who were having to…

OH THE HORROR

My friends and I have been running a survival experiment. It’s funny that I say my “friends,” because as of 5 weeks ago, I didn’t know most of them. But since this has been going on, I feel like I know many of them. Truthfully, when my friend Tanya mentioned doing something to break up the monotony of quarantine, I didn’t realize how much I needed something like this. I also didn’t realize just how much my level of depression had increased. I was living partly in denial.

So when Tanya asked if people would be interested…

The Second Time I Tried to Eat Like a Hobbit

“But what about second breakfast?” So, two years ago, I tried to eat like a Hobbit. It did not go well, as all that I did was eat. While that may be fun for cute little Hobbits, it’s not fun for fat little humans. So I quit that pretty quickly. Long story short, I was overeating all day long and it got rather obnoxious trying to figure out what to eat during all those meals.

Fast forward to now. What’s different? Well, where to begin…..

In order to tell a…

We have been blessed in recent years with stories and perspectives we would not have had even ten years ago. Stories like Loving, Hidden Figures, Black Panther, Get Out, and Wrinkle In Time with a black girl cast as the protagonist. We have had Selma, Seven Seconds, and 13th. These stories have been there for decades, but they are just now being shared with us. Everything we know has been whitewashed. That is not to say that writers like Stephen King, Shakespeare, Grisham, Atwood are not great writers. They just offer a very limited version of story. And it is…

I used to be skinny. Like, really REALLY skinny. And I didn’t even have to try. If I’m being entirely honest, I didn’t try at all. I didn’t exercise (other than being in marching band for a solid nine years, between high school and college), I didn’t diet (my freshman year of college consisted of microwave meals, like whole boxes of Rice-A-Roni and mac and cheese), and I certainly didn’t aim to lose weight. I was just blessed with extraordinary metabolism, and, like most dumbass young people, I didn’t appreciate it. I took it for granted. …

These days, there is technology that exists to track your every move. But we don’t even need it, because (many) people just put their business out there for everyone to see and never once consider the consequences. For example, I have one friend that posts everything they eat, when they are leaving the house, where they are going, when they arrive at their destination, and everything their child says and does. On the surface, it seems harmless. You think “well, I’m only sharing with my friends and family, so what’s the big deal?” But are you?

As we’ve seen with…
